Entrepreneurship as a Force for Good

Fellows in this track will be placed in Metro Manila

Every day, several Filipinos start businesses to sustain their livelihoods and contribute to their local economy. Increasingly, these ventures are being built with social impact at the center – intentionally redefining supply chains, industry practices, production methods, and very culture of business to something that’s more empowering and inclusive.

Potential host organizations include:

xchange is a social enterprise incubator based in Pasig City, Metro Manila. Through investment, coworking, and community building, they work to grow the movement of social impact ventures across the country.

Fellows with xchange will work on a set of projects with xchange’s venture portfolio: from Rags2Riches, the leader in socially responsible fashion accessories; to Hapinoy, which engages sari-sari stores as collectives that share resources and business opportunities; to other ventures that range from alternative energy to education.

Kalsada is on a mission to take specialty, third-wave Filipino coffee global – and engaging Filipino farmers from Benguet, Sagada, and beyond in the process. Kalsada partners with farmers to help them reach the highest potential for their coffee. Their unique approach moves beyond fair trade and organic labels and values integrity and community above all.

The Spark Project is a community that aims to showcase Filipino talent and ingenuity through an online crowdfunding platform where they can campaign to fund their creative, innovative, and passion-driven projects.

UPSTART is a board game that has you experience the successes and failures of setting up and sustaining a business without the risk. Through the game, UPSTART aims to open up the entrepreneurial process and educate Filipinos everywhere about the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur before taking the leap.
