The One-Island Economy

Fellows in this track will be placed in Marinduque

The Philippines is a nation of over 7000 islands. Yet few of these island economies are able to sustain themselves fully – in terms of local livelihood, in terms of having enough food to feed themselves, in terms of keeping and cultivating its people rather than losing them to opportunities in the cities.

Fellows in this track will participate in developing an island economy that can produce its own needs at the economic, social, and nutritional level – a model that can scale across the country if it’s successful.

AGREA (agriculture + Gaea) is a Filipino social enterprise that believes that the farming game is being played under unfair rules – and it’s time to change.

Rooted in the farming and coastal communities of Marinduque, AGREA operates through two entities: AGREA Foundation, which focuses on agricultural education and leadership development, and AGREA Enterprise, which connects farmers to technological tools and market opportunities that grow their livelihoods.
